Fado lives in the Alfama neighborhood. It is the oldest and most typical Lisbon neighborhood and no one goes there without being enchanted. The geography of the alleys, the old houses, the clothes hanging on the windows, or the fish grilling outdoors, makes it seem that the heart of the city still beats its origins. Alfama is like a travel postcard like few in Europe. Fado houses multiply at every corner, and it was here that Fado was born in the 19th century. Intangible heritage of UNESCO, Fado from an early age placed Portugal in the World Music panorama.

This experience begins at the hotel, from where we left towards Alfama. A stroll through the streets of this typical neighborhood quickly transfers us to another reality in Lisbon. The colorful facades, the guitar chords that echo from the various fado houses, the particular and joyful way of living in the oldest part of the city, is a unique moment in your visit to Lisbon.

It is through these very peculiar streets that we arrive at the Palace of the Counts of Linhares (former noble family descended from D. Fernando I) today houses a fado house, with an elegant and refined atmosphere. Here sing some well-known names, such as Ana Moura, Mafalda Arnauth, Marina Mota, Jorge Fernando, Raquel Tavares, among others. The cuisine is betting mainly on cod dishes.

We listen to fado while enjoying a complete menu, with starters, main course, dessert, coffee and of course, where there is Fado, there is wine!

Embark with us on this trip, where we take you to Sintra. This historic village considered by UNESCO as of humanity enchants from the arrival, through the landscapes that surround it.

We climb to the Pena Palace, built to be observed from anywhere in the Pena Park, this Palace is the result of the creativity of D. Fernando II and is the ultimate exponent of 19th century romanticism in Portugal.

It is a journey back in time that transports us to the time when King D. Carlos I and Queen D. Amélia lived there, assuming the decoration of their own rooms and representing the splendor of the velvet and gold of the time. as well as the architectural materials used. Then we pass by Quinta da Regaleira and Seteais Palace, today transformed into a beautiful Hotel, keeps the old trace that exudes the history of all the reigns that crossed.

We continue along the Royal Road to Monserrate Palace. We leave Sintra, and we meet other beauties. We arrived at Cabo da Roca. It would be bold of us to describe it other than through the words of Luís de Camões: “Here… where the earth ends… and the sea begins…”, wrote the Poet in his work “Os Lusíadas”. This place is the westernmost tip of Europe and is a meeting between land and sea. It has a breathtaking view of both the ocean and Serra de Sintra.

The fishing village of Cascais has reinvented itself and has become a refined seaside resort and one of the most sophisticated destinations in the Lisbon area. Situated a few kilometers from the mouth of the Tagus, it lies between the sunny bay of Cascais and the majestic Serra de Sintra. The maritime and refined atmosphere that attracts visitors all year round.

The Pena National Palace, built at an altitude of approximately 500 meters, dates back to 1839, when the king consort D. Fernando II of Saxe Coburgo-Gotha (1816-1885) acquired the ruins of the Jerónimo Monastery of Nossa Senhora da Pena and started its adaptation to mansion. To direct the works, he called the Baron of Eschwege, who was inspired by the Bavarian palaces to build this remarkable building. Extremely fanciful, Pena architecture uses the Moorish, Gothic and Manueline "motifs", but also the Wagnerian spirit of the Schinkel castles of central Europe.

When it rains high in the mountains, the waters flow down the slopes, in a long way to the sea, dragging with it the mineral wealth that contains all the wealth in the world. Then, giving way to the movement of the tides, the sea water invades the estuaries, being led by arms of ria and estuaries to the channels of the floodgates of the saline, which opens wide in the high tides of the full and new moons.

A salt water that evaporates, passing the brine so concentrated that salt is leaving us, the heaviest part of that water, so that the lighter one evaporates, perpetuating the circle of life until the next meeting in the saline. A cycle that has been repeated since forever and that would have originated 2 million years ago!

When you visit the Castro Marim salt pans, you will meet Jorge Raiado, a truly amazing and authentic host. Not only will he tell you all the secrets of the production of fleur de sel, talk about the huge difference between this product and industrial salt and the influence that different lands have on the flavors of salt, he will let you harvest this delicacy and also the will invite you to a salt tasting with typical products of the region!

They say that salt tempers life and it couldn't be more true ... your senses will have a lot to do, it's our promise!!

Day 8

10:00 - Visit to the oyster farm on Ilha da Culatra

Visit an oyster farm on the beautiful island of Culatra.

The transfer will be made in a taxi boat from Olhão directly to the nursery, where you will be personally received by the island's president, Sílvia, where you will learn a lot about life on the island, the local residents and, of course, the oysters. Learn all about this magnificent mollusk, its process of reproduction, collection and export to the best markets in the world. Approximately 85% of Portugal's mollusks and oysters come from the waters surrounding the four islands of the Ria Formosa: Lighthouse, Armona, Deserta and Culatra, the latter is the stronghold of many resident fishermen, who will generously invite you to rest among the mountains of fruit fresh seafood and a glass of fresh white wine.

Our day begins with a visit to the local market in Olhão where you can see local producers, fishermen and delicacies in the Algarve.

After visiting the Market, we will continue our day with the local fisherman and private boat to Ilha da Culatra!

TASTE THE OYSTERS

Arriving at Culatra, we will visit the Maternidade de Ostras (if the tide allows) and meet Silvia, who will explain everything about the fishing community and the daily life of this unique fishing community in Portugal.
